The Department of Mass Communication & Journalism at Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh
University is home to a vibrant and dynamic community of students. The department was established
in 2001 in response to the pressing demands in the sphere of the media world. Its purpose was to
educate and train students, from all over the country, to become accomplished professional journalists.
The department prepares them to perform a vital and challenging function in free and democratic societies:
finding out the truth of complicated situations, usually under a time constraint, and communicating it in
a clear, engaging fashion to the public.
Highly selective programmes, Master of Arts in Communication & Journalism & B.Voc. in
Communication & Journalism are intensive, rigorous, and demanding. Both programmes aim to provide
knowledge and skills to critically examine the institutions and practice of contemporary journalism in a
variety of media. The unique combination of professional, practical, academic coursework & experience
integrates today's media convergence and the future's media developments in critical areas of mass
communications like as: Print media, electronic media, New Media, Cinema Studies, Development
Communication, Health Journalism, Sports Journalism, Agricultural Journalism, Advertising, Public
relations, Hindi Journalism, Political Communication and Research. The Department of Mass
Communication & Journalism sports a diverse staff and faculty with distinguished professional, research,
and teaching records. Our faculty are deeply committed to teaching, challenging, and supporting their
students in a pragmatic way.
Enriched with high configuration networked computer systems, 'Media Lab' is established to
train our students to face smoothly modern trends in the Media world. High-Speed Internet facility &
Print media Software are used by our students. To provide pragmatic knowledge university's e-Magazine
'Avadh Abhivyakti' is regularly published by the department. Students and Teachers of the department
contribute towards its publication. YouTube channel “AvadhVani” launched by department to educate
students with the environment of Visual & Social Media. DigiCam, DSLR Camera, LCD Projector &
other equipments are available in Studio of the Department.
Various Seminars/Webinars & Workshops have been organized by the department on different
issues. During the year 2021 Department organized special programmes on: “Vartman Parivesh Mein
Media Ki Bhasha”, “Facebook & Cyber Crime”, and “Bazaarvad Evam Media”. Department organized
a National Webinar on “The Role of Mass Media during the Pandemic Covid-19”, Google News Initiative
India Training Network's Verification Webinar “Fact-Checking and Online Verification on Social Media
Platform”. Some Lecture Series on Current Issues in Media World are also delivered by renowned
faculty of high ranked universities. Prior to this, In the department workshop on “Extension of Science
& Technology through Cultural Activities” and “Science Reporting & Presentation” organised by NCSTC.
Another workshop on “Social Media & Fake News” organised by Google. A Film Festival was organised
by the department in 2017. Seminars on organised by the department on different issues frequently like
Career in Media, Development & Media, Parliamentary Democracy & Media, Right to Information &
Media, Human Rights & Media, National Press Day, Hindi Day, Role of Media in Social Integration etc.
Teachers and Students of the department made documentaries on the History of Dr. Rammanohar
Lohia Avadh University for the Foundation Day function. Graduates and Post Graduates of the
department go on to a variety of successful careers in a range of fields, including Print media, Radio &
T.V. Media, New Media, public relations, Advertising, academia, and government.
