The department of Adult and Continuing Education was established in 1984 by U.G.C.
under the new approach of education "Extension as third dimension of Higher Education". In
1988, the department was formally established under Faculty of Arts in the First Statute of the
University.
To meet the emerging trends of professional and vocational education, the department
aims at sustainable development and addresses several areas of concern through regular
courses such as M.A. in Adult and Continuing Education, P.G. Diploma in Fashion Designing.
B.Voc. in Fashion Design and Garment Technology. M.A. in Applied Psychology and M.A. in
Sociology under self-finance scheme. The students of M.A. and Fashion designing courses
are receiving placements in reputed companies and institutes on regular basis.
Under extension program, the department has contributed significantly in creating
awareness about various socio-economic upliftment programs aimed at rural-poor for which
the department has earned laurels and accolades from various government and non-government
agencies. It was to be a two-way process between the experts and the people, an intellectual
intervention in the communities' living problems which need to be overcome through an
educational process. It was aimed at importing education which helped students to face life
and its challenges along with creating an ambience for a learning society. Keeping these aims
in mind the Department of Adult and Continuing Educations has organized several activities in
the community as well as in the university. The department has also organized the training
programs, seminars, workshops and orientation programs on different topics i.e., Literacy,
Population Education, Environmental Education, Legal Literacy, National Integration, Rural
Development & Panchayati Raj, Health & Immunization Camp and Women's Empowerment.

and many of them have been placed in different fields viz., Rural Development & Panchayati
Raj, Health, Population Resource centre, National Literacy Mission, Environmental Studies
Centre, Banking sectors, Cooperate sectors, Agriculture sectors, Social Welfare sectors and
N.G.Os.

In the Fashion Designing course conducted by our department we give equal importance
is given to Designing as well as pattern making and Clothing Construction. Our aim is not to
turn out as Tailor- But also give a sense of discrimination and aesthetic regarding from color
and shape in design. It is the idea, which catches the fancy of customers and sale of garment.
After doing this course, job opportunities are available to the students in many fields such as
Fashion Coordinator, Sampling Coordinator, Cutting Assistant, Fashion Designer, Pattern
Maker, Accessories Designer, Self-Employment etc.
